Traditions

So our little family will be spending Christmas by ourselves in Parma again this year, and while we are getting more used to the idea, it still makes me a little sad to not be around family. We could drive to Greg's parents house 5 hours away, but the years we've planned to do that the weather hasn't cooperated and it's hard for "Santa" to find us there and then we have to transport all of the presents back home. So we decided it's best if we stay at home and start having our own family traditions. So while I have a plethora of traditions from both our families to choose from I was wondering what some of your favorite traditions are. What do you do on Christmas Eve that makes you giddy with excitement for the next day? What do you do after all the presents are opened on Christmas day? What do you do to make it last longer. My mother was notorious for making sure Christmas lasted all day. I love that!

Wasn't it just because there were so many of us that it took us all day to open presents and then we only had a few more hours to play with the gifts? I really can't think of anything that we used to do that made christmas last longer than the ever slow process of opening gifts. I don't know if anything else taught us patience as much as waiting for 10 people to open and assemble their gifts before you could open your next one.
I hope you have a good Christmas! LOVE YOU!

So, this may be a little late, but we always opened our stockings first. There were always such exciting goodies in there! We'd dump them into a bowl (each had his own) and one everything was situated we'd begin, with the youngest first. And we have something to snack on throughout the morning. And to make it last even longer, we'd stop for breakfast. A traditional monkey bread recipe and pigs in a blanket, or the like.
We had Christmas alone this year too. It's definitely different...a little bit less magic for the grown ups, I guess. Although I am not sure that's the right word...
