Why?

Madalyn is 3 and true to her age loves to ask me "Why?" questions a lot, a whole lot.
The other day she asked me why we have ears. I told her it was so we could hear sounds, like music and talking. She looked up at me and said "No, it's so we can stick our hair in our ears." Madalyn has had an obsession about putting the ends of people's hair in her ear and tickling the inside of her ear with it since she was a tiny baby. It used to be anyone's would do but now she just sticks with her own ponytails. She gets frustrated if I do a hairdo that doesn't allow her to do this. I am fine with her sticking it in her own ears, but it creeps me out when she does it in mine.

Valentine's Day Hairdo's

So while my sisters are crafty in the usual ways; painting, sewing, decorating etc, I lack skills and confidence in those areas, so here is my remedy to that. I love Valentine Hairdo's they are so sweet and lovely.

While technically this one isn't strictly a Valentine's do, I love it! With different ribbons it quickly becomes a spirit day do (we do that all the time with red and black pawprint ribbons)a easter do, a Christmas do, etc. You make 4 small square sections on the top and flip them into knots going towards her ears and then thread one strand of ribbon (make sure it's extra long) through the first row of knots, then braid it in with the hair hanging down from the ponytails, secure with rubberbands. Repeat until all four sections are braided and secured Pull all of the hair, including the braids into a ponytail and use your ribbon tails to tie a bow around the ponytail holder. So pretty!



This is so easy and gets so many comments. Simply make a small rectangular section on the top of her head, divide that in two and secure into loose ponytails. Stick your finger through the base of the ponytail and pull the hair hanging down up through the hole (does that make sense?) Take the hair that is now sticking up and divide it into two equal sections. Make into a heart shape and secure with a ponytail or clip. Repeat with other section. You could do one, two, or three hearts depending on the size of head you're dealing with.

I did the same thing on Maddie (last year) with just two half ponies and it looked super cute so you don't even need a lot of hair for this one.

This one can be cuter than my picture. As you can see my first ponytail should have been down farther, but then you just gather the hair into rubberbands to make a heart shape I would also try a little harder to make my parts neat and tidy.


You can also do this one from last year which still is one of my favorite hair dos of all time.


HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!!

The Tooth Fairy

Jacob lost his second tooth today and in preparation for the tooth fairy's visit he wrote her this little note. It's adorable. It's extremely well written for a second grader, here it is word for word. Note the correct use of commas, what second grader does that?

Tooth Fairy,
I have lost 2 teeth already, and I'm very excited. My tooth fell out when I was brushing my teeth. Good thing that it did not go down the drain. My tooth is in the tooth saver (a little treasure box he got at the dentist when they had to pull his first loose tooth) again. You don't have to give 1000 dollars. I don't think you have that much. And I can not have that much from you. Enjoy the tooth!

I loved it so much I made sure the tooth fairy was generous, although it was no where near 1000 dollars. Such a cute boy!

What took so long?

Have you ever seen something new and thought, "Well duh, why didn't anyone think of that before?" It's not as if we've been waiting around for technology to advance or anything, we just took things for the way they have always been. But some brillant person noticed the possibility for change and took charge. For example:

Square Ice Cream buckets - Seriously, why have we been using round all this time, square is a much better shape organizationally speaking.

Upside down ketchup bottles - Or are they finally right side up? Why have we been waiting for our ketchup all these years?

Adjustable waistbands in children's clothing - I would give the Nobel prize to the genius that finally put these in my kids' pants. What with obesity in children being on the rise, my stick thin children don't stand a chance without these. I wonder when they'll put them in adults clothes.

Have you had a "Well, duh..." moment lately?

Halloween Fun!

Halloween was so much fun this year, even it was on a Sunday. We are lucky enough to live in a community that allows Saturday trick or treating, so we did just enough to satisfy the kids desire for candy. We also went to an awesome halloween party at a family friend's house. It was so much fun. It was a lovely night which was great since the party was outside. They had a donut eating contest, bobbing for apples, pumpkin seed spitting contest, roasting hotdogs and marshmallows, pumpkin bowling, an obstacle course which you had to do on a broom, and a cake walk. We all had a blast. Here are some pictures for you to enjoy!
The spider web hairdo on Lorelei cost me twenty-five cents, apparently I am not above bribing my child to let me do her hair. She really did not want a spider in her hair, but I named her price I guess. :)

A Real Prince Charming

Like most little girls, mine are obsessed with princesses and princes. From the gowns, the shoes, the crowns, and the ball they love it all. It's so very cute to see them get excited when the princess dances with Prince Charming. We recently watched Beauty and the Beast together and the infuriating opening song gets stuck in my head. Well, Jacob was asking Greg if he could pick up three girls like Gaston could. Greg proved that he could by picking up all of our little daughters. Jacob was quite impressed. I sang off, "He's such a tall, dark, strong and handsome prince!" Lorelei quickly retorted that Dad is not a prince. Well, I beg the differ, and here is why.

A real prince charming comes home from a week long international trip exhausted to a house of sick kids and a sick wife and immediately takes over.

A real prince charming makes chicken noodle soup for his ailing family even though he doesn't know how and doesn't like to cook.

A real prince charming cleans up throw up at great personal risk.

A real prince charming watches the kids so that you can sleep all day to get better.

A real prince charming will run to the grocery store for no other reason than that you really need eggs, milk and bananas and you don't want to drag 4 kids to the store.

A real prince charming still wants to hug and kiss you even if you might throw up on him.

A real prince charming changes mulitple diapers a day without complaint.

A real prince charming doesn't wear a crown, he wears a pair of ladybug antennea and pretends to swat the bug in the room only to discover that it's him that he's trying to hit and falls to the floor to the delight of his captive audience.

My Prince Charming is a real prince charming and I hope Lorelei and the other girls realize that that's the kind you want to have.
